first_imgA meeting of more than 70 people has heard calls for the setting up of a new rescue service for animals across Donegal. The meeting was called following the closure of Donegal Pet Rescue in recent weeks.A spokesman for the organisers said everyone wanted the same outcome regarding animal welfare in Donegal and people had no problem putting their names forward to help out.“The public feedback was very positive and one of the main objectives to come from the meeting was the need for a rehoming centre to be set up in Donegal. “Another positive outcome from the meeting was the need organise a co-op to act as the umbrella for all the animal rescue groups in Donegal. Governed by the same charter and with strength in numbers, it would make it possible to perform tasks such as volunteering and fundraising a Donegal effort as opposed to an individual effort, with shared resources, support and activities.”Other issues discussed was the need for education and the fact that only 50% of schools availed of the services offered by Pet Rescues to school principals. The ease of which an animal can be got FREE was also discussed, it is felt that if it was more difficult to get a pet people might think more carefully before getting one.Reference was made my Mr Forde of the terrific work currently being undertaken by Donegal SPCA in building a rehabilitation centre in Ballyare and it is suggested that discussions be held with the Donegal SPCA to discuss the possibility of adding a rehoming centre to their development with a view to develop a lasting and sustainable pet rescue for Donegal moving forward. The spokesman added “The support from the public was a true testament to the loving and caring nature of local people who want to help and care for animals as much as possible. Support has been offered in more than just fostering but also with advertising, social media, fundraising and administration.“We would like to thank all the people who came out and showed their support at the meeting and on social media, as well as the media for raising awareness of this very important local issue.“Our collective dream of having a rescue centre in Donegal where all animals who need care and re homing can be nurtured and looked after is very much alive.”CALLS MADE FOR NEW PET RESCUE SERVICE FOR DONEGAL was last modified: April 7th, 2016 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)last_img read more
