Cashstrapped Indian carrier cancels flights

first_imgSource = e-Travel Blackboard: N.J Indian Airline, Kingfisher is reportedly planning to cancel up to 31 daily flights over the next week, leaving holiday season travellers stranded.Citing a local travel agency, the carrier is said to be struggling with paying the bills and will cancel up to 27 domestic flights on key routes to Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Kochi as well as international flights to Bangkok, Live Mint reported.The agency’s official told the new source that up to five to seven percent of the carrier’s flights were being axed until 19 November.“The immediate travel happening in the next two-three days will be worst hit,” Yatra Online chief executive Dhruv Shringisaid told media. “As of now, we are being told it is temporary till the 19th. If this capacity is not put back, you are looking at increases in air fares across the board on certain sectors.”Late last month the Indian carrier was showing signs of financial struggles when its chairman released plans to phase out its low-cost subsidiary, Kingfisher Red.
