Gap Adventures loses US title

first_imgGap Adventures has been forced to change its name in the US after losing a case against clothing retailer, The Gap on 24 June this year. After more than twenty years of operating under the Gap Adventure brand, the United States District Court ruled that due to “potential confusion” the travel company would have to change its name within the US from 1 September this year. However, Gap Adventure can continue running under the title in the other 18 countries it maintains offices, including Australia and New Zealand. The Company’s founder Bruce Poon said despite losing the case he was keen to see the Gap Adventure re-brand itself and its image.“A brand is defined by its culture, not by a corporate name or logo,” Mr Poon said. “At Gap Adventures, our culture is our brand.“We remain the world leader in adventure travel and we will always be a company that leads with service and is committed to helping people change their lives through enriching, one-of-a-kind travel experiences.”Mr Poon added that the court’s decision is just an “occasional bump in the road” that comes with being in the travel industry.“But still, I find it hard to believe that today’s consumers could confuse a clothing retailer with an established adventure travel company.”The company’s new title is yet to be decided.More details as they come to hand.
