Passive smoking issue moves under the spotlightOn 1 Apr 2003 in Personnel Today How the Government should regulate smoking in the workplace will come underthe spotlight at a conference this month. The Don’t Choke on Smoke conference on 9 April is being organised by theTUC, the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health and Action on Smoking andHealth (ASH). They will call on the Government to accept the long-delayed Health andSafety Commission’s Approved Code of Practice on passive smoking. It will alsopublish an opinion poll on the subject, and look at evidence of the levels ofillness caused by environmental tobacco smoke. The British Medical Association’s tobacco control resource centre has alsolaunched a ‘one-stop’ online database for health professionals. The TobaccoFactfile is available online.
