Major security breach at Adelaide Airport

first_imgSource = e-Travel Blackboard: G.A A man has reportedly driven his car into safety barriers before running on to the tarmac of Adelaide Airport early this morning. The driver was possibly drunk or suffering from mental health problems, a South Australian senior constable Rebecca Stokes told Bloomberg.Saying “mental health or intoxication” rather than terrorism was the probable cause, Ms Stokes said the Australian Federal Police (AFP) were questioning the driver. No explosives were found in the man’s car and the AFP claimed no further security concerns, AdelaideNow reported. At 7.50am, witnesses shocked by a loud smash, saw a Toyota Camry sedan slam into a glass security barrier west of the departures area.According to police, the vehicle’s driver exited the car and climbed a three metre fence to the tarmac where he was met by AFP officers.Adelaide Airport manager John McArdle said there was no danger or serious inconvenience to passengers given the incident happened near the bus stop at the western end of the upper level of the airport.”It created a bit of a diversion but there was no real disruption to normal operations,” he told AdelaideNow.”It caused a slight inconvenience to traffic but it didn’t stop it.”Had the person been able to break through that barrier, the car would have fallen to the ground near the valet parking area.””It’s difficult to say if anybody would have been hurt. “I would think it (falling to the ground) would have been more dangerous to him.”last_img read more
