He had 3.0 sacks entering the week to help Nicholls to its No. 2 ranking in the league standings, accounted for minus-22 yards lost while notching two of his sacks on third down. His 3.5 sacks are the most for any player in the conference this year. The Colonel defense limited SFA to 261 yards on offense and 2.6 yards per carry. Special Teams Player of the Week: Brandon Dabney, Lamar – Jr. – Defensive Back – Manteca, Calif.With Houston Baptist seemingly in control of the game, Brandon Dabney made a momentum changing play that turned the game around. On fourth-down and two from the HBU 30, Dabney broke through the line to block the Huskies’ punt which was recovered in the end zone to tie the game. It was one of two blocks for the LU special teams on the day, as the Cardinals rallied for their first Southland victory of the season, winning 23-16. Offensive Player of the Week: Tahj Smith, Nicholls – Fr. – Running Back – LaPlace, La.Heading into the game with only one carry for his career, the redshirt freshman subbed in after the Colonels’ two starting running backs left the game due to injury. He went on to total 177 yards on 23 carries, which is the second-highest single-game rushing yard total for a Southland player this season. His longest rush of the game was a 33-yarder and he capped his career day with a 20-yard scramble for his first touchdown. Smith was one of two Colonels to eclipse the 100-yard mark (Kyran Irvin – 160) in the win over 34-14 win over Stephen F. Austin as Nicholls finished with 418 yards on the ground.
