DONEGAL PEOPLE NAMED ‘LEAST ADVENTUROUS’ ON FOREIGN HOLIDAYS

first_imgDONEGAL people are the least adventurous in the whole of Ireland when we are away on holiday, according to a survey. One in three of us one seldom, rarely or never eat local cuisine when abroad.Donegal residents also lag behind when it comes to leaving a well-trodden tourist trail, and 7 per cent of those polled admitted to never going exploring, a higher percentage than any other county. Almost 80% of Irish people who travel abroad factor at least one ‘local culture’ trip into their break, according to the survey by AA travel insurance which questioned almost 13,000 people about their holiday habits. The results show 70% of respondents enjoy interacting with the locals – and 77% will sample the native cuisine.Just over half of those questioned say they have a go at the local lingo – even if it’s just a handful of phrases like ‘hello’, ‘thank you’ and ‘can I have the bill please’.“While there were those who indicated they like to switch off, lounge by the pool, read a few books and do little else when on a long -anticipated holiday, to quote one respondent “I like to relax not receive an education”, the majority of respondents shared the sentiment: Why bother leave home if you’re no interest in what your holiday destination has to offer?” said Miriam O’ Neill, spokesperson for AA Travel Insurance.
