Morocco Elected to UN Subcommittee on Prevention of Torture

Geneva – Morocco was elected, on Thursday in Geneva, in the person of jurist Abdallah Ounnir, as a member of the UN Subcommittee on Prevention of Torture.This election puts Ounnir in the third place after two of the most important countries in the said subcommittee, which are Germany and Switzerland.The election comes following the process of adoption, ratification and setting up of human rights instruments, in addition to the national mechanism to fight and prevent torture. Morocco’s presence in the said body for the next four years will foster the implementation of the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment and the optional protocol related to it, in addition to bringing the Moroccan expertise to the UN body’s mission. read more
