Spotted: Yong Sheng Starts 3rd Arctic Run

first_imgImage Courtesy: COSCOLMV Yong Sheng, an ice class ship owned by COSCO Shipping’s arm COSCOL, started on July 16 its third voyage via the Arctic Northeast Route which will take the vessel from China’s Port of Tianjin to the UK.In 2013, the 19,150 dwt Yong Sheng became the first Chinese merchant ship to complete a voyage via this route.In 2015, the 2002-built vessel sailed via the same route creating the new round-trip line between China and Europe.The Northeast Passage – a sea lane measuring about 2,936 sea miles, includes: sailing west across the Bering Strait, through the Chukchi Sea, East Siberian Sea, running across the Laptev Sea, Vilkitsky Channel, the Kerala Sea, the Barents Sea the final point being the European waterway ports.The Arctic Northeast Passage and Arctic Northwest Passage together form the Arctic waterway which is the most economical route in this region because it can reduce voyage for 12-15 days.Image Courtesy: COSCOLlast_img read more
